After a lot of great feedback on our eczema pain cream, many of you were asking for an everyday cream, so we’ve created this homemade cannabis cream! For those that may not be familiar with cannabis topicals, they’re infused lotions, balms or salves that are applied to the surface of the skin for a variety of purposes including pain relief, inflammation, and general skin care.
Because skin can become irritated from everyday stressors like deodorants, perfumes, scratches, and any other number of constant elements, skin can suffer from rashes, swelling, redness, itchiness which can be painful at worst or irritating at best. Both the cannabinoids CBD and THC can do wonders for your skin due to both the anti-inflammatory and pain relief benefits. Cannabis also has terpenes, which harbor a variety of properties including anti-fungal, antibacterial, and anti-itching abilities.
At this time, Health Canada does not permit the sale of cannabis creams, topicals, or edibles for that matter. We can, however, make our own. This allows us to customize our topicals and creams with different oils, cannabis strains, and different essential oils until we create the perfect cream for our needs!
When adding and mixing essential oils into skin care products we need to be careful. Essential oils, if not diluted properly, can be harsh on our skin and our eyes, so be careful to mix and measure well!
Melt all ingredients in the double boiler, except for the essential oils. If you don’t have a double boiler you can simply use a pan set on top of a pot with simmering water. We like to use a double boiler system to avoid direct heat on the oils, this ensures that we are warming the oil evenly and helps take away the risk of burning.
Remove from heat and mix in essential oils. We suggest choosing two or three that pair well, both in scent and effects!
Let cool, once it has partially solidified whisk everything together and pour into a mason jar or container.
Mix the cream in the container to allow it to settle and any large bubbles can escape before storing it at room temperature. Avoid letting the cream sit in the sun or anywhere too warm, heating the oils can cause separation that is easily fixed by a good whisk but best avoided!
We hope that infusing your cream with cannabis can help restore your skin, and keep you feeling hydrated, and healthy. If you have any questions about any of our recipes, or DIY’s message us on our social channels or sign up for our newsletter and we will do our best to answer all of your questions!
