Finding a healthier alternative to sugar is at the top of the list on many diet plans. Luckily for us, nature has provided a perfect sweet substitute, honey! Honey has been used in alternative medicines for century and was one of the first substances that cannabis was infused with.
There is a small catch, infusing cannabis into honey is almost perfect in every way, other than their in-ability to mix, or bind together. Cannabis needs a fat to bind with, and as honey has none in it, we have to create an infused oil, and then combine them!
In this recipe we are going to be using a cannabis infused coconut oil, from Starbuds. When you are deciding on a dose, keep in mind how much honey you would be using per serving. You aren’t going to be using all of this honey at once, after all! Instead of paying attention to the total MG of THC in the entire bottle, divide the total amount of honey, into approximate serving sizes. This way, you can better guess at the intensity of your cannabis infused honey.
You can use the chart below to appropriately dose your cannabis infused coconut oil. For beginners we recommend a serving size no bigger than 10mg of THC, it is always best to start low and go slow; you can always add more honey and increase the potency the next time you make honey!
- 1 ½ cups of honey
- ½ cup of cannabis-infused coconut oil
Once you’ve infused your coconut oil with cannabis, allow it to fully cool and harden. Place the hardened ½ cup of coconut oil into a blender.
Add your 1 ½ cups of honey to the blender, we recommend using an organic honey, from a local provider or farmers market, if you can.
On high blend the cannabis coconut oil and honey until it becomes white and whipped together thoroughly.
Any squeeze bottle or jar will work great. Keep in the fridge and use whenever you’re needing your dose of cannabis. Remember to clearly label the containing so everyone in your house knows that it is infused with cannabis.
Cannabis honey can be used in any number of ways, a few favorites we’ve seen; on toast, in coffee or tea, by the spoonful, or as a sugar replacement in standard baking. This sweet treat is not to be taken lightly; cannabis edibles have a very different and often more intense experience than simply inhaling cannabis, remember to start low, go slow and always consume in a safe environment.
